About Me

I am a Toronto-based musician navigating life through sound. As a drummer, tabla player, and composer, my work is rooted in expressing the emotional complexity of lived experience. As an immigrant artist, my voice is shaped by moving between cultures—holding the depth of North Indian classical tradition alongside the openness of jazz.

I began studying tabla in Ahmedabad, India at the age of five, completing my Visharad with three gold medals by the age of sixteen. After graduating from Humber Polytechnic, I made Toronto my home, where the city’s diversity continues to shape my artistic perspective through collaborations across musical and cultural backgrounds.

I lead three projects: Dhaivat Jani PLUS, a contemporary jazz ensemble; Sounds of Stories, a storytelling project shaped through improvisation; and EK, a solo audio-visual work that brings together my influences into an immersive performance.

Alongside my work as a leader, I perform and record internationally as a sideman, collaborating with artists including Pat LaBarbera, Hamid Motebassem, Kiran Ahluwalia, Roberto Occhipinti, Rez Abbasi, Mike Downes, Adam Rudolph, and Naseer Shamma.

At its core, my practice is about translating lived experience into sound—creating music that reflects the complexity and beauty of being human.
