About Me

I am a Toronto-based musician navigating life through sound. A drummer, tabla player, and composer, my music is rooted in a simple but evolving intention: to express the emotional complexity of the life I am living. As an immigrant artist originally from Ahmedabad, India, my voice is shaped by moving between cultures and traditions.

I began learning tabla at the age of five, growing up immersed in the North Indian classical tradition. As I grew older, my curiosity drew me toward the drumkit and jazz - music that felt unfamiliar yet strangely connected to what I already knew. A series of opportunities eventually brought me from Ahmedabad to Toronto to study at Humber Polytechnic. Since making Toronto my home, its diverse community of musicians, artists, and traditions has continued to shape my perspective and expand the sonic language of my work.

I lead three projects: Dhaivat Jani PLUS, a contemporary jazz ensemble; Sounds of Stories, a storytelling project shaped through improvisation; and EK, an ongoing solo project bringing together my influences through rhythm, currently in development for release and showcase in 2027.

Alongside my work as a leader, I perform and record internationally as a sideman, moving between drums and tabla across genres and musical traditions. I also collaborate across disciplines, working with artists in music, dance, poetry, visual art, film, and technology.

At its core, my practice is about translating the life I am living into sound - reflecting the complexity and beauty of being human.
